Man Nabbed For Beating, Injuring Victim On Long Island: Police

A 42-year-old Long Island man, armed with a metal tire reamer, was arrested after police said he brutally beat a man on a street corner.

It happened on Thursday, Feb. 1 in New Cassel, according to Nassau County Police.

At approximately 1 p.m. that day, 42-year-old Pedro Hernandez, who authorities said was homeless, reportedly got into a fight with another man at the intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Prospect Avenue.

While holding a metal tire reamer, he allegedly punched the 44-year-old victim in the back of the head and repeatedly in the face.

When the victim tried to block a punch, he was cut in the hand.

The victim was taken to a local hospital for the severe injuries on his right eye, nose, lip, and more.

Hernandez was arrested in a nearby parking lot. He is charged with assault, first- and second-degree.

He is scheduled to be arraigned at Hempstead’s First District Court on Friday, Feb. 2.
